Faith, Friendship & My Truth
Today’s Colors: Deep Blue for Faith, Earth Brown for Truth
Even though I am writing this a day later, I still remember everything clearly, because Wednesday was heavy, holy, and healing.
I woke up at 6 a.m. for our weekly student morning prayer. We gather every Wednesday morning, and as one of the group’s leaders, it means a lot to me. There is something so powerful about starting your day in prayer with others. It sets the tone, gives you motivation, peace, and purpose.
A Pause to Rest & Contribute 😌
After the prayer, I went back to sleep for a while, since I did not have class. Later in the day, I worked on my part of a group assignment, sent it through to my team, and asked them to edit it. I believe teamwork works best when there is clear communication and shared responsibility.
After that, I took a shower and visited a friend. It was just a chill catch-up for about an hour, but I love how small moments like that remind me I’m supported.
Home Cell: A Different Kind of Church 🙏🏾💬
Then came homecell, my favourite space on at Res. It is more than a Bible study. It is where we:
-
Play games
-
Worship and sing
-
Break down scripture
-
Share testimonies
-
Pray over each other’s lives, dreams, and families
It is a space full of hope and healing. Yesterday, during our leaders’ meeting after homecell, I felt a strong pull to share my story. A story I have held quietly for too long.
I Finally Opened Up… 💔
I spoke about home.
About how no one in my family is employed.
How my mother works in a kitchen…
How my father wakes up every day to guard sheep and goats in the veld back in our village.
How I am the first in my family to ever go to university.
How there are days we sleep hungry, how Christmas comes and goes with no food, no new clothes, just quiet.
How I send money home every month so they can eat.
It was painful to say aloud… but also powerful. I did not cry, but my heart spoke. And in that moment, I felt a huge release. A weight off my chest.
“Sometimes telling your story is the start of your healing.”
And I thank God that despite everything, I’m still here. I am in my second year, and every step forward is one step closer to changing my family’s story forever.
The Night Ended Softly 🎬
After the meeting, I went back to my room. I visited a friend, and we ended the night watching a movie together. No big words. Just warmth, company, and peace.
💡 What I Learned Yesterday:
-
Leading with faith brings people together
-
Teamwork in small things makes big things possible
-
Sharing your truth can heal more than just yourself
-
No one knows your story until you are brave enough to tell it
