Study, Laughter & Missing My Floor

Today’s Colours: Sunshine Yellow for Laughter, Forest Green for Growth My Saturday did not start with a bang; it started with rest. I woke up around 10 a.m., cleaned my room, and cared for a friend who was not feeling well. She had a stomachache, and I was genuinely worried about her. Being there for each other, especially in those small ways, really makes our friendships stronger πŸ’› Study Blocks & Support Moments πŸ§ΊπŸ“˜ After she left, I took a bath and shifted into study mode . I studied from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., just trying to stay on track for my upcoming test. Then another friend asked for help with her laundry, so I stepped out to assist, and we ended up chatting for a while—sometimes, those quick moments turn into little pockets of joy. Night Study Turns Into Comedy Hour πŸ₯²πŸŽ¬πŸ“– Around 7 p.m., my other friend invited me to the study room. We stayed focused and productive… until we took a break at 10 p.m. and got lost in a conversation about the series we are both watc...

Rest Is not Lazy—It is Necessary

Image
Today’s Colours: Dusty Rose for Rest, Midnight Blue for Reset Sometimes the body speaks louder than the mind, and yesterday, mine shouted , “REST.” And I listened. I did not sleep at all the night before, so by 6 a.m. I was doing my usual: morning prayer. That moment always grounds me. But after that, I finally allowed myself to shut down and sleep… hard. πŸ›Œ Sleep, Friendship & Letting Go πŸ’€✨ Around noon, my friend came over and joined me, honestly, we just slept . It was that deep, guilt-free kind of rest that reminds you are human before you are a student, leader, or anything else. By 3 p.m., I got up, took a bath, and made myself something to eat. I felt lighter. And instead of pushing myself to study like I usually do, I made a different choice: I watched a movie and let my brain breathe. I have been studying non-stop, and I did not want to saturate my mind to the point of burnout. We always talk about hard work—but we forget that rest is part of the work too . πŸ’‘ What...

Gentle Rhythms & Study Vibes

Image
Today’s Colors: Soft Yellow for Warmth, Cool Grey for Calm This Thursday felt softer than most. Not rushed, not too heavy, just a quiet rhythm that matched how I was feeling. I woke up around 7 a.m. because my friend had slept over. When they left, I went back into bed and fell asleep again until 10 a.m. Sometimes, your body just needs that rest. I didn’t fight it. Cleaning, Cooking & Catching a Vibe 🎢🍲🧹 Once I got up, I started cleaning my space, music playing in the background . There’s something about cleaning while vibing to your favourite songs, it just makes everything feel lighter and more meaningful. After that, I made myself some food. I took my time and actually enjoyed the process. That small joy of cooking for yourself, in peace? It hits different. Study Flow & A Sunset Walk πŸ“šπŸŒ† After eating, I went straight into my studies. I have been preparing for a test next week, so I want to stay consistent. I studied until about 5 p.m., then gave myself a ...

Faith, Friendship & My Truth

Image
Today’s Colors: Deep Blue for Faith, Earth Brown for Truth Even though I am writing this a day later, I still remember everything clearly, because Wednesday was heavy , holy , and healing . I woke up at 6 a.m. for our weekly student morning prayer . We gather every Wednesday morning, and as one of the group’s leaders, it means a lot to me. There is something so powerful about starting your day in prayer with others. It sets the tone, gives you motivation, peace, and purpose. A Pause to Rest & Contribute 😌 After the prayer, I went back to sleep for a while, since I did not have class. Later in the day, I worked on my part of a group assignment , sent it through to my team, and asked them to edit it. I believe teamwork works best when there is clear communication and shared responsibility. After that, I took a shower and visited a friend. It was just a chill catch-up for about an hour, but I love how small moments like that remind me I’m supported. Home Cell: A Differen...

Waking up with a Purpose

Hooray! I actually woke up at 6 a.m. today and did my morning prayer, something I had planned for yesterday but missed. It felt really good to start my day aligned and peaceful. I had a 9 ;40 a.m. class, so I got ready and headed to campus. In class, the lecturer explained the assignment expectations, which helped clear up a few things. Then something sweet and unexpected happened… Free Juice & Warm Moments  After class, we passed by the Student Centre, and guess what? They were giving out free juice ! As if they knew I needed it, because I had only brought biscuits. That little gesture reminded me how powerful giving can be. Seeing people smile and say “thank you” for something small is honestly such a joy. It made me realise: “Giving back brings joy to both the giver and the receiver.”   Study Sessions & Real Conversations Later, I chilled with my friend while we ate, and then we jumped back into study mode,  still preparing for my test next week. We ask...

Missed Alarms and Quiet Wins

Image
I had planned to wake up at 6 a.m. for morning prayer, but… I ended up cancelling my alarm. That small moment of honesty set the tone for a slow, quiet start to the day. No rushing, just me easing into the morning. Since I had no classes today, I finally got up around 9 and made something to eat. While doing that, I played gospel music, something about it just brings calm and joy. It really does set my mood right. Shared Effort, Shared Energy Later in the day, I called up my friend, and we worked together on the blog assignment we have both been working on. It reminded me how helpful it is to study and create in community when we assist each other, understanding comes more easily. It turns the pressure into something more manageable. Moments of Peace, Then Focus After our call, I took a bath, relaxed a bit, and then went to chill with my friend. A little bit of fresh air and company was good for the soul. I also grabbed some food and snacks (a must for any serious study session, ri...

Why I Chose to Keep Writing

This is not my first time blogging, I actually started writing during a university assignment for UJ’s 20-year celebration. But something about that experience stayed with me. I realised how much I enjoyed slowing down, reflecting, and capturing the colors of my daily life. So, this time, I am doing it for me. So here I am. Still writing. Still reflecting. This space, My Days in Colour , is my way of turning ordinary days into something meaningful.  I am currently a student at the University of Johannesburg, studying Public Relations and Communication. Life is full of lessons, wins, struggles, and stories, and this blog is my way of saying all of it. Whether it is reflecting on a lecture, sharing a song, or just venting about a tough day, I am putting it all here. What this blog is about Daily reflections as a student and growing adult The behind-the-scenes of student life at UJ Honest thoughts, sudden moments Songs, sounds, and moods Lessons I am learning by living Why I c...
